Celebrating
the ribbon
cutting at the dedication
of our brand new Center, April 4, 2007!

Moving
into the 21st century, the Dietert Center has evolved into
a volunteer-driven, community based organization that helps men and
women maintain active, independent lives in their senior years.
The center is the only nonprofit organization in Kerr County dedicated
exclusively to helping older people. It is a place where seniors
of all ages engage in entertaining, educational and creative social
activities, as well as find fulfilling volunteer opportunities.
It is also the administrative center for a variety of professional
support programs designed to help seniors remain independent in
their homes for as long as possible, including "Meals On Wheels."
The center also operates caregiver respite services and a
resource center for families who are caring for an aging loved one.
With
the help of some very generous local citizens, the senior center was
able to purchase 9 acres of property along the Guadalupe River as
the site for the new facility. A $4 million dollar Capital
Campaign began in the Fall of 2004 to raise the funds needed. Ground breaking occurred on January 27, 2006.
Thanks to our amazing donors, the campaign reached its goal!
The new facility was dedicated on April 4, 2007 - debt-free!
Financial support
for the center comes from a variety of sources. Government funding accounts for approximately
23% of the center’s
total support each year. Service
fees, donations from program participants, proceeds from the
travel program, thrift
shop and other retail activities generate 54% of the Center's
annual revenue. Income from an endowment established by Harry Dietert’s
estate generates 2%. The remainder of expenses must be covered by generous donations
from the community and other fund raising efforts.
The
Dietert Center staff, Board of Directors and volunteers are
committed to the community we serve and the elderly who depend on
us for sustaining and improving their quality of life.
